Door closer adjustment
Sweep speed, latch speed, back-check and final close set correctly so the door closes smoothly and latches every time.
Commercial door closer adjustments and replacements across all Brisbane suburbs by appointment. Surface-mounted closers, shopfront doors, transom closers and commercial door hardware.
If any of this sounds familiar, the closer needs adjustment or replacement. Left alone, a bad closer leads to damaged doors, security issues, tenant complaints and repeat callouts.
Door slamming shut every time it's used
Door not latching, sitting slightly open
Door closing too slowly or sticking part-way
Door hard to push open against the closer
Oil leaking from the closer body
Door blowing open in wind or storms
Shopfront door not returning to closed position
Transom closer failing or leaking
Damaged pivots, arms or commercial hardware
A door closer that isn't doing its job affects more than convenience. It leads to damaged door frames, broken latches, security and compliance issues, customer frustration and tenant complaints. Worth getting it sorted properly the first time.
From a quick adjustment to a full transom closer replacement, the range of commercial door hardware work we book in.

Transom closers are commonly used in aluminium shopfront and commercial glass door setups. They sit hidden in the top transom or header above the door, so the door looks cleaner than the bulky surface-mounted closers you see on most timber doors. The trade-off is that fitting, adjustment and replacement need to be done properly: there's nowhere to hide a sloppy job.
Note on adjustment vs replacement. If a closer is leaking, badly worn or no longer controlling the door, replacement is the right long-term call. We'll explain why before recommending it.
A poorly fitted or low-grade door closer doesn't stay quiet for long. The door starts slamming, the latch stops catching, the frame takes a hammering, and you end up with damaged doors, security issues, tenant complaints and repeat callouts. The "saving" disappears the first time someone has to come back.
AB Locksmiths focuses on suitable hardware, careful fitting and proper adjustment so the door closes smoothly and latches reliably. The right closer for the door, set up properly, doing its job quietly for years. That's the value, not the lowest invoice on the day.
Most door companies will sort the door and then tell you to call a locksmith for the lock. Most locksmiths will sort the lock and then tell you to call a door company for the closer. Two trades, two service calls, two invoices. Twice the price for one job.
That isn't how we work. AB Locksmiths handles the entire opening: the door, the closer, the locks, the latching and the hardware in between. One trade, one visit, one bill. No bouncing between contractors. No "that's not my job, mate." We do the doors and the locks.
Door companies charge a fortune for what we already do. Why pay two service calls when one trade can handle the lot?

A transom closer is a door closer that sits hidden inside the top transom or header above a door, instead of on the face of the door itself. They're commonly used on commercial aluminium and glass doors because they look cleaner. The mechanism still does the same job: controlling how the door swings closed and latches.
Usually, yes. Most door closers have separate adjustments for sweep speed, latch speed, back-check and final close. If the closer is in reasonable condition, we adjust it on site so the door closes smoothly, slows down near the latch and catches properly. If the closer is worn beyond what adjustment can fix, replacement is the better call.
Leaking closers are past adjustment and need replacing. Once a closer starts losing oil, the seals are gone and it won't hold its setting for long, so replacement is the right call. We'll inspect the door and advise before proceeding.

Yes. We fit commercial-grade door closers and hardware suited to the door weight, traffic and use case, not the cheapest unit on the shelf. The goal is hardware that does its job quietly for years, not a closer that needs replacing again in twelve months.
