Transom closers for shopfront and commercial doors.

Transom closers are commonly used in aluminium shopfront and commercial glass door setups. They sit hidden in the top transom or header above the door, so the door looks cleaner than the bulky surface-mounted closers you see on most timber doors. The trade-off is that fitting, adjustment and replacement need to be done properly: there's nowhere to hide a sloppy job.

  • Cleaner appearance than a bulky surface-mounted closer on the inside of the door.
  • Correct fitting and adjustment matters. The right unit for the door weight and use case, set up so the door closes and latches reliably.

What is a transom closer?

A transom closer is a door closer that sits hidden inside the top transom or header above a door, instead of on the face of the door itself. They're commonly used on commercial aluminium and glass doors because they look cleaner. The mechanism still does the same job: controlling how the door swings closed and latches.

Can you adjust a door closer that slams?

Usually, yes. Most door closers have separate adjustments for sweep speed, latch speed, back-check and final close. If the closer is in reasonable condition, we adjust it on site so the door closes smoothly, slows down near the latch and catches properly. If the closer is worn beyond what adjustment can fix, replacement is the better call.

What should I do about a leaking door closer?

Leaking closers are past adjustment and need replacing. Once a closer starts losing oil, the seals are gone and it won't hold its setting for long, so replacement is the right call. We'll inspect the door and advise before proceeding.

Do you work on shopfront doors?

Yes. Aluminium shopfront doors, glass entry doors, retail entries and the transom closers fitted to them are a regular part of our commercial work. Adjustments and replacements where the existing hardware is no longer serviceable.

Do you do body corporate and strata door closer work?

Yes. We do scheduled and as-needed door closer work for body corporates, strata-managed buildings and the managing agents that look after them. Clean tax invoices with PO references where required.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. A couple of clear photos of the door, the existing closer (if any) and the frame are usually enough for an indicative quote. For larger or more complex jobs we'll do a site visit before quoting firm.
